Velneshwar Beach - The Lonely Konkan Coast
If you are looking at an ideal water spot where you can enjoy the beauty of nature while swimming and sunbathing, then Velneshwar beach in Maharashtra is just the right spot for you! This is one place where the fresh green coconut trees and rock less sea water makes the place so beautiful and attractive that even the hot afternoons seem so pleasant and refreshing. Located near Velneshwar village which is on North of Shastri River in Maharashtra, this beach is actually quite famous for its location and also the peace, which is accompanied by the clean atmosphere that it has to offer.

The nearest airport is Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji international Airport; from where one has to take a train or travel by road.
The nearest railway station, which is approximately 60 km away from Velneswar is situated in Chiplun, which is located on the Konan railway route.
From Mumbai, this beach is located at around 370 km distance and is also approximately 16 km away from Guhagar. In order to reach here Maharashtra State Transport (MSRTC) Buses are also available. From Pune to Velneshwar the distance is approximately 200km; from Ratnagiri it is around 170kms

Since one is with nature on this beach, therefore any season is good to visit this place. However it is best to wait till the end of rainy seasons when the Mother Nature would be all adorned to welcome you, and make your stay here a memorable one! One of the things to see here are the numerous number of beetle nut trees being grown. The home stay that we did had a roof(See photo above) with only beetle nuts all around – left to dry in the sun!
Though there are many private resorts that are available, one can also stay in the government resort that is located near the beach
Velneshwar Beach is a becoming a very popular tourist spot and the magic and charm of this place, with thick lush green vegetation and twists and turns of the Western Ghats are enough to captivate one’s attention.

The entry of the place is marked by Velneshwar Temple which is Lord Shiva’s temple that is around 1700 years old, though that is just one part; and the rest of the temple was constructed in 1960’s and 70’s. The best thing that can be appreciated by all, besides the beauty and cleanliness of this beach is the fact that the temple in this area is without any touts. Marathi population needs to be given huge accolades for keeping their temples litter and tout free. In fact the serene, and clean environs of this place can enable you spend hours in this temple; although traditionally Maha Shivratri fair is celebrated in Velneshawr in the month of March which is held in honour of Lord Shiva and also is time of rejuvenation and celebration in this area.

One can also enjoy swimming or sunbathing in this clean beach where one can absolutely enjoy the beauty and calm of the place which brings you very close to nature. Devoid of any kind of pollution, the serene and quiet offered by this place definitely makes it an ideal location to just laze around admiring the beautiful Mother Nature with fresh breeze from the ocean.
